Enthralled Portuguese switch on for the Mourinho TV show （選錄）

THEY will be trying to push the mute button on Jose Mourinho in Nyon today, but
the bigwigs of Uefa can be expected to be casting aside their remote controls
in exasperation at the news that the Chelsea manager is to have his own
television show. The 50-minute live show will be broadcast monthly in Portugal
and, given that Mourinho is said to be “willing to talk about anything but
politics”, there is more potential for its star to end up in a courtroom than
Rumpole of the Bailey.
The first show is scheduled for Monday, April 18 at 9pm — after the watershed.
An interview with Mourinho last week on SIC, the show’s broadcaster, drew a
huge audience. “The results were phenomenal,” Martim Cabral, SIC’s managing
edit or for news, who is handling the project, said. “And the new show will
be on at super prime time.”
Viewers will be able to text or e-mail questions to Mourinho, who will work
with a presenter, coincidentally named Perdo Mourinho but no relation, from
London.Viewers should not expect a double act. Highprofile guests will help
to keep the flow of conversation going.
“He’s willing to talk about everything except politics,” Cabral said. “
We expect huge interest from male audience, but we’re also hoping for a large
female audience, too, because there’s interest in him personally. He goes to
parties, so we might get him to talk about that. In the first show, we might
get him to say what he thinks about the royal wedding, or British society.”
The programme does not signal Mourinho’s intent to embark on a new career. He
is being paid, but the fee, according to Cabral, is “not an enormous sum”,
compared with the salary paid by Chelsea.
