Forssell in reserve action

Mikael Forssell makes another step forward in his return from a knee
operation when he begins Chelsea reserves’ game away at Ipswich tonight.
It will be the Finnish international striker’s first start since
suffering injury back in September when on loan at Birmingham. He played
the closing few minutes of the first team’s home leg against Bayern
Munich a fortnight ago.
Forssell’s presence will be a welcome addition to a reserve team
that is still missing the goalscoring threat of Sebastian Kneissl through
injury.
Steven Watt is also unavailable. He is away with the Scotland
Futures international squad, a selection of promising youngsters from
that country. Watt’s place in central defence goes to 17 year-old
Michael Mancienne.
The trip to Ipswich is the reserves’ final away game of the season,
Mick McGiven’s side having taken on the same team in the first home game.
That August evening saw the side from Suffolk snatch a goal in the
final few seconds to earn a point from a 1-1 draw. Michele Gallaccio had
scored for Chelsea in the first-half, watched by Jose Mourinho and his
entire coaching staff.
Since then Ipswich have struggled and are currently bottom in the
southern section of the table although they have played less games than
the teams above.
In their last outing they beat table-topping Charlton 3-0, although
the already-crowned reserve league champions from south-east London
fielded a young side. It was Ipswich’s fourth win out of 13 home games
with six defeats in that total.
They include in their squad tonight Guinea international right-back
Drissa Diallo who is returning from an injury and striker Jamie Scowcroft
, back on loan at Ipswich after his spell at Leicester. Ipswich played in
the FA Youth Cup last night ruling out some of their younger players from
this reserve game.
