Parker assured of Blues future
Fri 13 Aug, 9:44 AM
Chelsea midfielder Scott Parker claims Jose Mourinho has assured him he still
has a future at Stamford Bridge.
The 23-year-old was expected to press on and make the England squad for Euro
2004 following his move from Charlton in January, but his career appeared to
come to a halt in west London.
Parker struggled to command a regular place under Claudio Ranieri, often
playing out of position on the right flank as Ranieri stuck to the Lampard-
Makelele axis in the middle of the park.
His exile out wide is believed to have cost him his place in Sven Goran
Eriksson's final squad for Portugal.
Upon Mourinho's arrival, Parker was tipped to be one of the players moved on by
the mastermind behind Porto's Champions League success last season.
However, the former Addicks ace says he has been told he will get the chance to
impress this season and is ready to prove his worth in the coming campaign.
"Talking helped a lot," said Parker. "As a player you want to know where you
stand.
"It was very pleasing and it's good to know what the manager wants. Now I am
ready to fight for my place."
