http://www.chelseafc.com/article.asp?id=220297 Reserves kick into action Tuesday, Aug 17, 2004 Chelsea Reserves kick-off their league season this evening with a fixture away at Watford. It means a quick return for goalkeeper Lenny Pidgeley to the club where he did so well on loan last season, playing 27 times. Mick McGiven’s first selection is based very much on players he had available to him last season, injuries and international call-ups severely limiting the possibility of any first team squad members dropping down to take part in this fixture. Last season’s youth team top scorer, Italian Michele Gallaccio will lead the attack along with the more experienced Danny Woodards while the place in central midfield vacated by on-loan Alexis Nicolas is up for grabs. Craig Rocastle and last season’s youth captain Danny Hollands are two possible regulars there. Michael Mancienne, often a central defender is also likely to play in midfield, a position he has also filled at junior level. The 16 year-old played his first three reserve games towards the end of last season. Seventeen year-old Dean Smith, last campaign’s most selected reserve defender continues at right-back while at left-back will be Sam Tillen. It is an important season for Sam after three years decimated by injury. The full Chelsea line-up tonight is: Lenny Pidgeley, Dean Smith, Adrian Pettigrew, Steven Watt, Sam Tillen, Filipe Morais, Michael Mancienne, Craig Rocastle, Danny Hollands, Michele Gallaccio, Danny Woodards. Subs: Yves M.Kalambay, Ben Hudell, James Simmonds, Anthony Grant, Philip Younghusband. Watford have already played their first reserve fixture of the season. Last Wednesday they beat Coventry away 4-3. Two of the goals came from Heidar Helguson, the Iceland international who gave the Chelsea first team a few problems in our FA Cup tie with Watford last season and one was scored by Scott Fitzgerald. He has previously played and scored for Chelsea Reserves on trial. Helguson is returning from injury. Tonight’s game kicks-off at Vicarage Road at 7pm but if you cannot make it along to support the second string in person, there is full live coverage of the match on Chelsea TV, starting at 6-30pm. Tommy Langley is the studio guest, Jason Cundy co-commentates.
