Keegan lines up Desailly swoop

Former Chelsea skipper Marcel Desailly is lining up a shock return to English
football with Manchester City.

The French legend left Stamford Bridge this summer by mutual consent after six
years in west London, and was thought by many to be set to retire.

Desailly endured a difficult year both at club level and with France, where,
starting only one game, he suffered the ignominy of watching Zinedine Zidane
wear the armband during Les Blues' ill-fated Euro 2004 campaign.

With a move to Qatar having fallen through, Desailly, 36 next month, wants to
stay in the Premiership.

He said: "I still want to play. I feel powerful and am convinced I can give
service to certain clubs."

Manchester City boss Kevin Keegan has a track record of signing veterans,
having brought both Peter Schmeichel and David Seaman to the blue half of
Manchester with mixed success. Now, the former England manager sees Desailly as
the man to replace Daniel Van Buyten who has left for Hamburg and is ready to
offer the French legend a one-year contract.
