Cole told he needs to play more

Sven-Goran Eriksson has warned Joe Cole he must seal a regular place for
Chelsea before he can hope to break into the England team.
Cole is hoping to earn a recall to the squad for next month's World Cup
qualifiers against Austria and Poland, having missed the friendly against
Ukraine, ostensibly through injury.
His case was certainly improved as new Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho's faith in
him was shown by his selection for the second consecutive game on the left
flank against Southampton.
"It's important for him to find a role at club level. I should be very happy to
see him play in the same position for a number of games, which he has almost
never done at Chelsea,'' stressed Eriksson.
"That's the most important thing. It's difficult for me if he's not starting as
you don't know which substitutions you will have to do during a game.
"Before I picked the squad against Ukraine, I talked to Mourinho, who said he
was injured. But of course, I want players to play. If they don't play, then
it's difficult to pick them.''
Cole's preferred position is behind the front two, although this is exactly
where team-mate Frank Lampard now operates for club and country.
Asked where he would ideally like Cole to be playing, Eriksson admitted: "To
the left, if I'm being selfish!
"But it doesn't really matter to me. I hope that he finds a place in the team,
but that's up to him and Mourinho to sort out.''
