Mutu does not expect Chelsea sack



Chelsea striker Adrian Mutu does not expect the club to sack him, despite the
failed drugs test that may keep him out of the sport for up to two years.


The 25-year-old also admitted to coming close to physically assaulting Blues
boss Jose Mourinho during a row.


"I'm almost certain Chelsea will not pay my contract during any suspension -
but they will not sack me," said Mutu.


"In the meantime I just have to wait for the decisions which the Football
Association and my club will take."


However, Mutu - who is likely to face a lengthy ban from football once the FA
investigation into the episode is completed - admitted that his long-term
future was unlikely to be at Stamford Bridge.


"Even I find it hard to believe that I might have a future at Chelsea so, most
probably, I will have to go back and play in Italy again," said Mutu.


The Romanian international also gave details of an argument with Mourinho after
he allegedly missed a training session.


"I have to admit that in the heat of our confrontation I did actually threaten
Mourinho about what would happen if he ever went to Romania," said Mutu.


"In a moment of total madness, I almost hit him, too. But now I am calmer and I
must say I have nothing against the coach."


Mutu, who returned from two days in Italy on Thursday, has backtracked after
originally admitting to taking cocaine.


Instead, Mutu has now said that he took something "to make (him) feel good".


On Tuesday, English players' union chief Gordon Taylor said Mutu had admitted
testing positive for cocaine.


But he told Romanian television: "I didn't take cocaine. I took something to
make me feel good."


Mutu also told Romanian newspaper Pro Sport that he was unhappy with the way
the matter has been handled.


"Things about my situation were greatly exaggerated," Mutu told Pro Sport.


"What has happened to me has shown me who my real friends are."


Both the FA and Chelsea have refused to comment on the case.


Mutu is unlikely to learn his fate from the FA for at least another two weeks.


But his agent Gica Popescu revealed on Thursday the player would organise a
news conference next week.
