Parker plans to stick it out
Scott Parker has insisted that he has never thought about quitting Chelsea
despite failing to earn a regular place in Jose Mourinho's title-chasing side.
The 24-year-old made his first Premiership start of the season in the 4-0
demolition of Blackburn on Saturday and was only given his chance because
Claude Makelele was sidelined on the morning of the game with a high
temperature.
The former Charlton star grabbed his opportunity in fine style with a
commanding performance at the heart of the Blues midfield.
The England international has been linked with a loan move back to The Valley
when the transfer window opens in January, but Mourinho this week maintained he
does not want to let the talented midfielder go.
Parker's lack of first-team football has had a direct bearing on his prospects
for the national team and he admits that while it's been tough to sit and watch
the side from the stands, he has never thought about leaving.
He said: "It was difficult but leaving never came into my mind. I am sure if
you asked me the same question a couple of months down the line I would be in
the same position.
"My main thing is I moved here in December. I have a family, I've just bought a
new house and we're settling. The last thing I want to do is upset everything.
"I've surprised myself how professional I've been over the last few weeks. Any
footballer is the same. When you're not involved you feel distanced from it all
and at times I was.
"There were times when I wasn't even getting changed or in the squad. I was
sitting at home on a Saturday at 3 o'clock."
But Parker holds no grudges against Mourinho and has vowed to compete for a
regular first-team place.
"I think the manager has been fair. At the beginning of the season I spoke a
lot with the boss and he told me what he wanted from me and what he expected of
me," he added.
"He told me to keep working hard, believe in him and I will get my chance.
"I felt that all I can do is impress him on the training pitch and I've really
been doing that in the last few months.
"I feel I am at a club where I can really make it. I'm at a big club.
Mr Abramovich will make it a big club and I want to be part of it."
