Chelsea hat-trick hero Eidur Gudjohnsen has promised to increase the pressure
on Arsenal following their defeat by Manchester United.
Gudjohnsen's first ever hat-trick in Saturday's 4-0 victory over Blackburn,
followed by United's 2-0 win over Arsenal on Sunday, means that the champions'
lead over Chelsea has been cut to just two points.
"We have to do everything possible, everything we can, to keep the pressure on
Arsenal," said Gudjohnsen.
"Manchester United's win means that the gap has been closed and we have to keep
up that pressure and even increase it if we can."
Up until Saturday's hat-trick, the Icelandic striker had been without a
Premiership goal since the first day of the season, as both he and the club
struggled for goals.
"I think we've been threatening to score a few goals in a match," he said.
"We've been playing well, creating a lot of chances and it as just a matter of
putting those chances away."
"I've scored two goals for Chelsea on quite a few occasions but never a
hat-trick," he added. "It's very pleasing and something I'll treasure."
Chelsea were also boosted by the return from injury of Dutch international
Arjen Robben.
"It's a real boost to have him back and playing," said Gudjohnsen.
"I've seen enough of him in training to know just what a good player he is.
"He's very quick, he's very direct and exciting, both for the fans and for a
forward to play alongside.
"He can rip defences apart. He showed some lovely glimpes of that against
Blackburn.
"Hopefully he can get stronger and manage to stay fit because he's had a bit of
an unfortunate start to his Chelsea career.
"I am sure he will soon establish himself as a big favourite."
