Drogba hails Makelele
Chelsea striker Didier Drogba believes midfield lynchpin Claude Makelele
is the key to their amazing success this season.
The industrious Frenchman has enjoyed an impressive campaign anchoring
Jose Mourinho's midfield and his decision to quit international football
is paying dividends for Jose Mourinho's all-conquering Londoners.
Now Drogba claims the midfielder deserves all the plaudits he is currently
getting for his performances at the heart of the Chelsea team.
"Makelele has impressed me the most with his experience and charisma,"
he said.
"He is much respected and is someone who does the simple things.
"He has a lot of class. I can tell you, if Makelele was not in the team -
Mourinho would not have come.
"He is very important in our system, the team acts in a different way
when he is not present."
The Ivory Coast striker also remains adamant Chelsea will not lose their
impetus as they seek to bring the first title to Stamford Bridge for 50 years.
Chelsea hold a commanding 10-point lead in the table and Drogba concedes
it would take a major blip for Chelsea to be relieved of top spot.
He added: "To defeat us is difficult. But, we live with the idea that we
could lose a game. We have a comfortable lead but we can't relax with that.
"However, let's say that to concede 10 points would mean we went through a
very bad period."
