http://footballmsn.skysports.com/list.asp?hlid=252079 We want more Mourinho! by Adam Marshall - created on 26 Jan 2005 Jose Mourinho is a fascinating character and, by common assent, a breath of fresh air for English football. Why is it then that we are being denied the chance to hear from the Portuguese coach who is making the art of management look about as difficult as passing your GCSEs(?)? More often than not recently, the European Cup winner has passed on the press conference duties to his assistant Steve Clarke. Not only post-match but during the build-up to the games as well. It might be adding to the mystique surrounding Mourinho but I feel it is selling the footballing public a little short. Having replaced a personality as enchanting as Claudio Ranieri's, we seem to be missing something from the managers' routine exchanges with the media. Ranieri lit up many a Friday with his jovial pre-match jousting sessions with the press pack and Mourinho is similarly engaging and entertaining. Yet he seems happy to shun the limelight, preferring instead to conduct interviews with Chelsea's in-house television station. At least he is doing some talking but you dread to think of the outcry that would follow Sir Alex Ferguson restricting his thoughts solely to MUTV rather than a wider audience. Mourinho probably has his reasons; the press are always keen to twist any comments to suit their own purpose and some of his franker admissions have already prompted investigation from The Football Association. The tabloids are eager to stir up a feud with Ferguson but the ridiculous lengths the Scot's spat with Arsene Wenger have reached has kept the back pages fully covered recently. Yet Mourinho is very self-assured, confident and cocksure. He could certainly handle even the most difficult of interrogations and has shown no signs that any of his interviews will be conducted on anything but his own terms. Chelsea are still chasing glory on four fronts and are striving for an unprecedented haul of silverware this season. Their bright, much-heralded coach is capable of rewriting the record books and adding his name to the pantheon of great managers. So, forgive me for being selfish, but let us hear from him. Let Jose revel in his success, if he so desires, and allow thoughts from one of the sharpest football brains on the planet to be aired to everybody. Being shy and retiring does not fit with Mourinho's make up and, no offence to his number two, but deadpan Scot Clarke has a lot of work to do to be anywhere near as entertaining as his boss. What do you think? Are we being starved of Mourinho? Do you want to hear more from the Chelsea manager? Or does he already say too much?
