Chelsea close to new ￡300m shirt contract

Chelsea are close to signing a 15-year kit deal with adidas that could be
worth up to ￡300m.

Last week the Premiership leaders announced that they would pay ￡24.5m to
terminate their sponsorship deal with Umbro, fuelling speculation that they
would tie up a record deal with Nike or adidas.


However, it is understood that adidas have beaten off competition from their
biggest rivals to supply Chelsea with kit from the beginning of the 2006/07
season, and an announcement confirming the most lucrative sponsorship contract
in the club's history is thought to be imminent.
