Blues agree Gronkjaer fee

Chelsea have accepted an "undisclosed but substantial" offer from Birmingham
for Danish winger Jesper Gronkjaer.


Gronkjaer was widely expected to leave Stamford Bridge following the arrival of
 new manager Jose Mourinho.

But the 26-year-old had also been linked with Uefa Cup winners Valencia, who
appointed former Chelsea coach Claudio Ranieri earlier this month.


Gronkjaer joined the Danish Euro 2004 squad on Tuesday after delaying his
arrival due to the death of his mother.


He is now in the process of agreeing personal terms with Birmingham and is set
to join former Chelsea team-mate Mikael Forssell at St Andrews.


Blues boss Steve Bruce has also signed midfielder Muzzy Izzet from Leicester
and striker Emile Heskey from Liverpool.


Gronkjaer joined Chelsea from Ajax for ￡7.8m in October 2000.


He made 48 appearances last season, scoring his three goals in the closing 10
days of the campaign.


He opened his account in the 2-2 Champions League semi-final first-leg draw
with Monaco at Stamford Bridge.


And he was on target in the 1-1 draw with Manchester United, which clinched
second place in the Premiership for Ranieri's side, and the 1-0 win over Leeds
on the final day of the season.
