http://soccernet.espn.go.com/headlinenews?id=315040&cc=4716 Chelsea striker Meteja Kezman has revealed England striker Michael Owen was the inspiration behind his maiden strike for the club. Serb Kezman broke his duck in last week's Carling Cup win over local rivals, Coca-Cola Championship side West Ham, after failing to set the world alight since his £5million move from PSV Eindhoven. Question marks surrounding his performances began to surface but Kezman said he followed the example of Owen, who suffered similar problems after moving to Real Madrid pre-season. Owen also persevered and after scoring his first for the Spaniards, has now notched four in as many games. 'Even the greatest strikers go through spells when they can't score goals and you just have to keep working away,' Kezman told the official website of the Football Association. 'Michael Owen inspired me because he was getting a lot of criticism but as soon as he scored his first goal for Real Madrid it all changed. 'He didn't take any notice of the critics and just kept on going for England and for his club. I have been doing the same.' After seeing Owen regain his scoring touch so impressively, Kezman believes he can follow the England striker's lead - despite playing no part in Chelsea's 4-1 demolition of West Brom on Saturday, where he was an unused substitute. 'This first goal is very important for me. I feel very free now. I feel confidence directly from this. I feel now it is just the first goal of many, many goals. 'I know it's true. I have experience of this situation before. When I was at PSV I didn't score in Europe for about 10 games. It was also a tough, tough moment for me. 'But then I scored my first against Perugia and then in the next six games I scored six goals, against teams like Auxerre and Newcastle. This is the life for a striker. 'Sometimes you score easily but sometimes you have a problem and that affects your confidence. The thing then is to score just one. That has now happened to meand of course I am very happy about it.' Kezman is a naturally confident forward and seems to have little doubt about his own ability. And with the likes of Arjen Robben, Damien Duff and the increasingly impressive Joe Cole providing the supply line, the goals are likely to flow. 'I never had any doubts that I would score. I believe in myself all the time and I was sure I would score against West Ham. 'It was a great ball from Joe Cole, I hit a fantastic shot and finally I was a bit lucky because the ball hit the post but went in. 'I just want to keep going now and score lots of goals so we can try to be champions,' he said. -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 61.228.6.25
