Champions League Matchday Four has been completed with Chelsea and Juventus
vying to keep the longest 100 per cent record in this year’s group stage.
A 1-0 away victory against Bayern Munich on Wednesday evening left the Italian
giants as the only club who can match Chelsea’s four wins out of four. All
Juve’s victories so far have been by one goal to nil.
The two Milan clubs had also been matching us with nine points from three
matches but AC Milan’s defeat in Barcelona and Inter’s 0-0 draw against
Valencia saw them drop points for the first time.
Chelsea’s impeccable record means we have already matched the four group stage
wins recorded in our Champions League campaign last season and surpassed the
three wins back in 1999/2000.
If we manage to win our two remaining Group H games, Chelsea would become only
the third club to qualify with maximum points since the group stage was
introduced.
Barcelona achieved the feat two seasons ago although it was not enough to
prevent Louis van Gaal losing his manager’s job soon after. Prior to that,
Spartak Moscow progressed with 18 points in 1995/6.
