    Chelsea and Newcastle are one step away from the Carling Cup quarter
-finals and both clubs already have silverware in sight according to Steve
Clarke.


    Chelsea’s assistant manager worked previously in the same position up
at St James’ Park so understands the mentality surrounding both clubs.
Newcastle have not won a trophy since 1969, Chelsea have gone four seasons
without a cup. Now each stands in the other’s way.


   "對雙方俱樂部來說這都是一場大比賽，我們自從2000年後就沒有贏過獎盃了，本
季我們想得到獎盃，我們要確定能贏得一個獎盃而聯賽盃就是其中之一，我們會盡力
爭取，我認為紐卡索也是這麼想的。"


   "雖然他們在聯賽的積分不如我們但他們還是個好球隊，他們擁有許多天份很高的
球員，也很努力的成為一支好球隊，我想這會是一場困難的比賽。"


    Newcastle did not relish a visit from another west London side on
Sunday, losing heavily in the Premiership to Fulham and Clarke believes
the Chelsea players should prepare to face a degree of backlash.


   "他們深深以自己的球隊為榮，他們的球迷也是，主場４－１的落敗肯定讓他們非
常失望，所以我預期不論是球員還是球迷都會有很大的反擊，今晚將會非常困難。"


    Goalkeeper Shay Given returns to the Newcastle squad after he was given
time off at the weekend to attend the birth of his baby, coincidentally the
same reason Scott Parker was absent for Chelsea’s win over Everton.

    Kieron Dyer is also included in the home squad after playing a reserve
game on Monday as he returns from a hamstring tear. Ex-Spurs full-back
Stephen Carr will not play however due to a knee complaint.


    It is a familiar bill of health for Chelsea as the squad heads up to
Tyneside with just Didier Drogba unavailable. Clarke has an update on the
big striker’s progress.


   "他目前正在訓練，他還有一些復健要做，不過已經可以個體訓練和團體訓練了，
也可以進行足球方面的訓練，重新熟悉球感，他被鏟了一兩次，我們告訴球員們不要
動他，這對他的傷癒是有幫助的。"


    There will be expectations that Jose Mourinho will shuffle his pack for
this Carling Cup 4th round tie. He did so in the previous round against
West Ham although still managed to field 13 internationals.


    The Chelsea manager has already indicated that William Gallas and Wayne
Bridge are likely to return and any transition should be smooth according
to Mourinho’s right-hand man.


   "不論誰會上場，比賽的風格都是一樣的，準備也是，因此雖然人們說我們會輪換
會進行改變，但是事實上並不盡然，因為我們保持固定的系統，球員們都知道我們的
期望是什麼。"
