Kezman, 24, for whom Chelsea have agreed to pay PSV Eindhoven about ￡7 million,
boasts an impressive goalscoring record in the Dutch league over the past four
seasons, but his pedigree at the top level is less certain. Arsenal and
Liverpool were put off by his record of not having scored in 12 appearances in
the past two Champions League campaigns, leaving Birmingham City, Charlton
Athleic and Fulham to scrap for his signature until Chelsea made their move on
Thursday.


Subject to agreeing personal terms and passing a medical examination next week,
Kezman will become Chelsea’s third summer acquisition — after Petr Cech,
the Czech Republic goalkeeper, and Robben — but the first to be signed by
Jose Mourinho, the new manager. Paulo Ferreira, the Portugal right back, is
set to become Mourinho's second signing next week, with a ￡13.2 million fee
agreed with.


FC Porto. The combined outlay for the four players will be almost ￡40 million.
Another striker may yet follow Kezman to Stamford Bridge, particularly after
Hernan Crespo indicated yesterday that he may be joining AC Milan on a
season-long loan.
