Chelsea close in on four

Chelsea are closing in on four new signings as many of Jose Mourinho's existing
players return to training today.


PSV Eindhoven striker Majeta Kezman is at Stamford Bridge for a medical ahead
of his ￡5million move and right-back Paulo Ferraira's ￡13m arrival from
Porto should be completed in the next few days, while the club are also
confident of signing Fernando Morientes and Benfica midfielder Tiago Mendes.


While these four players should be in place in the next fortnight, several other
stars are set to leave Chelsea as Mourinho intensifies his attempt to reduce
the club's squad to a more manageable size. Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has already
been released and Hernan Crespo is on the verge of completing a loan move to
AC Milan, but more departures are expected.


Mourinho has given his players a two-week deadline to prove their worth on the
training ground before Chelsea embark on their pre-season tour of America. Those
in the firing line include Adrian Mutu and Claude Makelele, while Carlton Cole
is expected to be loaned out again after returning to the club from Charlton.


All Chelsea players involved in the European Championship will not return to
training for another two weeks.
