Hernan Crespo was not at the first day of training, prompting Jose Mourinho
toquestion where Chelsea needed strengthening before the season begins.
At his press conference, the new manager said: “We have 20 players decided
to be in the squad definitely. We have three or four more spaces to make
before he new season, and the spaces may be for new people or for persons who
are already Chelsea players.”
He dodged talking about individuals but made it clear than the club is not in
for Edgar Davids or Wayne Rooney. He did admit: “Right-back, Paulo Ferreira,
Glen Johnson, closed; left-back, Babayaro, Wayne Bridge, closed; left-wing,
Duff Robben, closed; central defence, open; midfield player, open; striker,
I don’t know yet."
He said he had talked to Adrian Mutu this morning who was very positive about
his future with Chelsea and wanting to be here, but he didn’t know why Hernan
had yet to turn up, what the delay was, what his hopes for this season are,
and on firmed he hadn’t heard from his agent. “I don’t know if maybe his
plan was delayed.”(老大真愛說笑,讓我想到我遲到時會說塞車)
He also spoke at length about Chelsea not signing Steven Gerrard. “When it
was a possibility to take him, I thought he was a top player. I don’t know
him well but when I saw him on the pitch I can understand the boy must be a
very good boy with a top personality.
"But I think positive. In the football world there are many players. You have
a lot of players to choose. He is a top player no doubt, but I’m not worried
about it. We have to change our minds in a different direction. I wish him big
success at Liverpool, but I hope he stays just behind us in the League.”
