Macho trial at Carrow Road

    Goalkeeper Jurgen Macho is spending one week on trial Norwich City
although he will not be able to take part in match action for the
Premiership newcomers during that period.


    The arrival of Petr Cech at Stamford Bridge has intensified an already
highly competitive battle for the Chelsea keepers shirt so Macho, who will
be 27 in August, has accepted the offer to showcase his abilities at another
club.


    His time at Chelsea has been overshadowed by serious injury. Signed last
summer on a free transfer from Sunderland as a prospective number two to
Carlo Cudicini, the Austrian international ruptured a cruciate knee ligament
within weeks of arriving and before playing a game.


    The unfortunate Macho recovered in time to resume full training at the
very end of the season and has worked on his fitness during the summer. If
he does move on to another club, he will become that rarest of players - a
Chelsea signing who left without playing a single game.
