Chelsea defender Richardo Carvalho is one of the few players in Mourinho's
expensive squad who knows what it takes to be a winner.
The former Porto centre-back helped Mourinho to land the Champions League,
UEFA Cup and Portuguese league titles during his time at the club and is now
on the brink of transferring his winning streak to English football with his
sights set firmly on lifting the Carling cup on Sunday.
Chelsea face Liverpool in the first showpiece final of the season at Cardiff's
Millennium Stadium and Carvalho says they dare not lose for fear of having to
face a furious Mourinho - and lose a third game in a row.
The 26-year-old said:"He always wants to be a winner and is extremely
ambitious. He just doesn't want to lose, full stop.
"Consequently, the team doesn't deal particularly well with losing or drawing.
He's got the message across because the atmosphere in the dressing room is
completely different when we win. The taste of defeat is very bitter.'
That bitterness is not a feeling Carvalho has experienced with any regularity
in a successful career that brought him the domestic title as well as the
Champions League trophy with Porto last season.
A repeat of that feat is still achievable despite their 2-1 defeat by
Barcelona in the Nou Camp, but Carvalho insists that winning the Premiership
title remains the priority.
"We should prepare ourselves mentally to win the Premiership, Mourinho doesn't
need to say anything," he added.
"But the only achievement that makes sense given the risks the club has taken.
We know our value. We do hav a very good chance of winning and I really want
to win it. We are at the top of the table and we want to stay there."
