Wayne Bridge looks to return to the Chelsea team tonight after eight
months out following breaking his shin at Newcastle. It was a serious
injury, he has told tonight’s Matchday Magazine programme.
“I broke the fibula which isn’t so bad, but the ankle almost came
away from the leg. I ripped all the ligaments bar one. It was hanging on
by one ligament.”
Yet he returned to action extraordinarily quickly, playing his first
45 minutes in Washington against DC Utd. That was well before schedule,
and was a surprise to everyone who wasn’t there.“When we were in America
I remember the Doc telling me after I played that the surgeon phoned up to
ask what the hell was going on,” he laughs.
Chelsea has said he is in the squad tonight but has yet to reveal if
he will start. The full interview appears in the programme.
