DOWN YOUR WEMBLEY WAY

Throughout this FA Cup Final week, chelseafc.com asks some of our Wembley-
bound players about past experiences of the stadium, or in many cases,
their dream of a first game there.

It's easy to forget that the seven years it has taken to reconstruct the
national stadium is half-a-lifetime in the career of many professionals.
A whole new generation has grown up waiting patiently to follow in the
footsteps of legends who have trod the famous turf - and the list waiting
includes some well-established England internationals. Others however do
hold cherished memories.
很容易忘記重建這座國家球場用了七年，那是很多職業球員職業生涯的一半。在耐心
等待的過程中，年輕一代已經成長起來了，他們跟隨了那些曾經走在這座著名的球場

For instance, Joe Cole has spoken in recent weeks about his one game in
the old Wembley when an England international schoolboy. He also sat in
the stands at the final match before the bulldozers moved in, unused on
his first time in the full England squad for the game against Michael
Ballack's Germany. But for Cole, his favourite memory is as normal 14-
year-old fan.

'The best moment there was in Euro '96, watching England v Scotland when
Seaman saved a penalty. I had just finished celebrating that when Gazza
went up the other end and scored that wonder goal with that wonder
celebration,' he reminisces.
“那裡最好的記憶來自於1996年的歐錦賽，我看了英格蘭vs蘇格蘭隊的比賽，西曼撲

'I was behind that goal when Seaman saved the pen so I was buzzing with
it. I wanted Gazza to do well because I was a big fan of his and when he
did the business, I was well happy!

'I went to all the group games in Euro '96 and the Holland game was magic
as well but that other game was the special moment because it was exciting
against Scotland. The penalty save was really when it all started for
England and went rolling on from there.'

Cole's first taste of Wembley had come a few years earlier at a friendly
against Germany - 'I nearly got crushed!' he recalls - but more recently,
injury prevented him joining the England squad's training session in the
new stadium. 'I went when it was half done though. It looked impressive
then so I am looking forward to seeing the finished article.'
科爾首次品嘗溫布利是在那場比賽幾年前，在一場與德國隊的友誼賽中：“我幾乎陶

It is perhaps not a huge coincidence that another of Chelsea's England
regulars has similar thoughts to Cole. Frank Lampard wasn't born when his
father won the first of two FA Cup winners' medals with West Ham and was
only coming up to two-years-old on the second occasion.

'Other than having seen it on telly, I have no recollection of it,' he
says. 'I certainly didn't go. Euro '96 and Gazza's goal is my best Wembley
memory. The atmosphere in the Euros was great.'

Lampard made his international debut before Wembley's demolition but a 16-
month gap between first and second caps means he didn't play there. He
begins a club of players waiting for a first game that not surprisingly
contains plenty of Chelsea's overseas stars.

'I have never been there before,' confirms Petr Cech. 'This will be my
first time. I have seen it from distance because I was just driving past.
Last time I saw football from there was when the Czech Republic played a
friendly in '98 before they started building but I was only watching on
telly. FA Cup Finals have never been live on Czech television so I saw
only highlights. That was the only thing I could see.'

It is a fact that you only need travel a little way down the main road
from Chelsea's training headquarters at Cobham towards Stamford Bridge to
catch a glimpse of the new stadium many miles away. It's a sight that has
not escaped Didier Drogba.

'From the road you can see the arch so every time I go to town, I pray to
be there. I have never been to Wembley. In France, we always watched the
FA Cup Final. It is always a big thing in France and we had some French
players who performed well there like Cantona and Nicolas Anelka. So I am
really looking forward to this Final.'
“從公路上，你可以看到拱橋，所以每次我進城時，我都會祈禱能去那裡。我從未去
過溫布利。在法國，我們總會看足總盃決賽。在法國那往往是一件大事，曾經有幾名
