Even before Chelsea’s sixth round FA Cup tie with Arsenal has come to a
conclusion, Carlo Cudicini’s performance at Highbury on March 8th impressed
enough for him to be voted the Player of the Round.
This accolade is run by the FA in conjunction with Umbro with three nominees
selected and votes cast by fans via the FA’s website. The winners in the three
previous rounds were Farnborough Town's Danny Carroll, Dagenham and Redbridge
keeper, Tony Roberts and Patrick Vieira.
This time, Carlo’s efforts, including the penalty save from Thierry Henry and
the blocking of Giovanni Van Bronckhorst’s last gasp deflected free-kick saw
him beat off challenges from Sheffield United’s Steve Kabba and Southampton’s
Chris Marsden in the poll
Carlo will receive the award, including £1000 worth of kit and equipment to
donate to the local school or club of his choosing, at the training ground
tomorrow.
