Drogba 'still desperate to leave' Chelsea

Didier Drogba remains intent on leaving Chelsea regardless of Luiz Felipe
Scolari's arrival as manager. Frank Lampard, however, is undecided about
his future and will meet the Brazilian coach tomorrow to discuss it.

Drogba has been unsettled at Stamford Bridge since Jose Mourinho's
dismissal as manager in September. The Ivory Coast striker would have
moved to another Champions League side in January if he could have and
expects Chelsea to allow him to depart this summer, with AC Milan his most
likely destination.

Though Chelsea are preparing to replace Drogba with Barcelona's transfer-
listed forward Samuel Eto'o, they will look for a fee of over ￡20m for a
player who has scored 80 goals in 174 appearances for the club. 'Didier is
still desperate to leave and he wants to go as soon as possible,' said a
source close to the Ivorien.

While Lampard has been invited to become the focus of Mourinho's overhaul
of Internazionale, he is more likely to remain at Chelsea for at least the
final year of his current contract. The midfielder is reluctant to leave
London for family reasons and could be persuaded to stay at the club by
Scolari assuring him of his continued importance to the team.

Scolari flew into London yesterday to prepare for pre-season training,
accompanied by three Brazilian assistants. Fitness trainer Darlan
Schneider and assistant coach Flavio Teixeira were part of Brazil's World
Cup-winning backroom staff in 2002 and continued to work alongside Scolari
during his five years as Portugal coach. Another former member of the
Brazil staff, goalkeeping coach Carlos Pracidelli, has been recruited from
Palmeiras to take on scouting and other duties.

Steve Clarke will stay on as an assistant coach after meeting Scolari in
Portugal last week. Clarke is highly regarded at the club for his work

Bryan English also met Scolari last week for talks.

boosted this summer by the arrivals of Deco and Jose Bosingwa, Roman
Abramovich is said to hold reservations about the Barcelona playmaker's
fitness for Premier League football.

Chelsea officials insist that Abramovich will not purchase Andrei Arshavin
as an alternative to Ronaldinho. The Zenit St Petersburg attacker is
available for about ￡10m, but is seeking an annual wage of ￡8m. The
Zenit coach Dick Advocaat announced last night that Arshavin will not play
for the side again until his future is decided. 'Andrei won't play until
things are all cleared up,' Advocaat said. Chelsea also deny that Scolari
will be required to add at least one of Russia's Euro 2008 stars to his
squad.

Claude Makelele has reopened discussions with Paris Saint-Germain about a
transfer, though Nicolas Anelka's talks with new club president Simon
Tahar have been described as 'a courtesy meeting with an old friend'.
