Frank Lampard stands on the verge of setting a new Premiership record this
weekend but his manager believes it is only by winning major silverware that
Chelsea’s durable midfielder will gain true worldwide recognition.
If Lampard is involved against Tottenham on Sunday he will set a new
Premiership best of 114 consecutive games, beating team-mate Wayne Bridge’s
record achieved back in his Southampton days.
The last League game Lampard was absent for was at Craven Cottage in September
2001 during his first Chelsea season. A suspension following a red card at
White Hart Lane was the reason.
Jose Mourinho finds it easy to believe that a Frank-less Chelsea has proved so
rare.
He said: “Lamps has to be a little bit lucky also for injuries to be far away
from him but the more I see him work, the more it doesn’t surprise me. He is
really strong, mentally and physically. He loves to play football and enjoys
every minute of his game.

he is like a big engine in a special car.”
