Lamps lights up England, says Terry

England defender John Terry has hailed the emergence of free-scoring midfielder
Frank Lampard as one of the nation's key performers.
Lampard struck his fifth goal in the last seven internationals in Saturday's
disappointing 2-2 draw with Austria in a World Cup qualifier in Vienna.
The Chelsea midfielder had been one of the few England players to emerge with
their reputation enhanced during Euro 2004 when he was on target against France,
Croatia and Portugal.
Chelsea skipper Terry said: "Frank has been fantastic. He is the backbone of
Chelsea. He has got his England chance because of how well he has played for
Chelsea and he deserves it.
"For a midfielder to score five goals in seven games for his country is
fantastic and in every game he gets two or three chances and is always likely
to put them away.
"He has been fantastic for club and country. He has worked hard. He is
desperate to play for his country. He is very proud and is very determined and
he has reaped the rewards.''
Terry knows the importance of England putting their bid to qualify for the 2006
World Cup finals back on track as quickly as possible when they take on Poland
3-0 winners over Northern Ireland - in Katowice on Wednesday.
But he is also aware England need to rediscover the habit of keeping clean
sheets, something they have achieved only twice in the last 11 internationals.
Terry said: "The lack of clean sheets is something we have to look on in
training. I am sure the backroom staff will do that.
"That is something we are going to need to tighten up on because if you don't
concede goals, you don't lose games. We need to look over the video of
Saturday's game and try to put things right.
"It was bad play from our point of view on Saturday. We are a good enough squad
to hold onto a lead like that and we should have kept the ball a lot better.
"There was silence after the game because it was two points lost that could be
vital at the end of the group stage.
"But we can't wait now for the game on Wednesday to come around. It's a chance
for us to bounce straight back which is what we've got to do.''
