Cole welcomes SWP arrival


Chelsea midfield Joe Cole has welcomed the signing of Shaun Wright-Phillips
- even thought it threatens his own place in the Premiership champions'
line-up.

喬柯爾很歡迎小賴特的加入,儘管會對他的位置造成威脅.


Wright-Phillips, 23, is expected to conclude his ￡21m switch from Manchester
City later on Monday once negotiations for his personal terms and a successful
medical have been completed.


The England winger's arrival on a five-year contract will give Chelsea boss
Jose Mourinho hour alternatives for the two wide postions with Arjen Robben,
Damien Duff and Cole also fighting for inclusion.


But Cole, who enjoyed the best season of his career under Mourinho last term,
has embraced the increased competition at Stamford Bridge and backs himself
to emerge with his reputation enhanced.

喬柯爾欣然接受在切爾西日增的挑戰,並能從中脫穎而出.

"Shaun will make the team and me a better player. I thrive on that competition
- I love it - and it's the only way to play football." the 23-year-old told
London's Evening Standard.

小賴特將會使我自己和球隊加分,競爭使我成長,我喜歡這樣的環境,這是足壇唯一生存
之道.

"You can't come to Chelsea and expect a walk in the park. You have to play
well in every game, you have to score goals and make goals. That pressure is
what I thrive on and, hopefully, it'll be another successful season.

在切爾西你不能期望只在球場上閒晃,你必須每一場都有精采的表現,你必須進球或者
助攻得分,在這樣的壓力下使我成長茁壯,希望今年又是令人難忘的賽季.

"There are four of us for the two positions os it's going to be tough, but I'm
confident enough in my ability that I know I can play for Chelsea. Shaun's
signing is not a slight on my ability al all. The manager is always looking to
improve and so am I.

四個人競爭兩個位置的確很困難,但我對我的能力有信心,小賴特的到來並不會讓外界忽略
我的球技,教練向來是一位注重進步,而我個人也是.

"It's fantastic news for the club. It's great that competition for places is
hotting up and we know that whoever plays has to be fantastic to stay in the
side.


"Shaun scores goals, is tenacious and is a welcome addition to our team - on
and off the field. He's a good lad as well and it'll be great to have him
around the place. He'll help us win lots of trophies."

小賴特進球能力強,韌性強,球場外他人也很好,他可以幫助球隊獲得很多獎盃.

Cole admits his team-mates are thrilled by Chelsea's enormous spending power
in the transfer market as the club continues negotiations for coveted Lyon
midfielder Michael Essien.

喬柯爾承認對球隊雄厚的財力也感到很興奮.

"I'm full of excitement. The new signing could have been Shaun Wright-Phillips
Joaquin, Figo, Cristiano Ronaldo - it could have been anybody," he said.

"The club have gone for a player who is here to compete with everybody. We're
all here to help Chelsea win the league again and, hopefully, the Champions
League.

"Money's no object for the manager, he can go out and buy any player he wants.
It's a great position for the club to be in."
