Lyon put ￡31m tag on Essien

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has told Chelsea they will have to pay ￡31m
if they want to sign highly-rated midfielder Michael Essien.


Aulas, who had previously said the player was not for sale, signalled a U-turn
by the French champions in comments to French sports daily L'Equipe on Monday.


"Chelsea had accepted the price Liveerpool asked for Steven Gerrard (￡31m).
I told them Mike would leave only at that price. As for now, Chelsea have
refused," Aulas was quoted as saying.

切爾西依照利物浦的要求,提出￡31m的報價,所以我也一樣畫葫蘆,我也這接受同樣的報價
目前切爾西方面拒絕.

Aulas has also given Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon a deadline to make
an offer for the midfielder, who has also been linked with London rival
Arsenal.


"I have told him (Kenyon) I would not talk after my return in France, on 21
July," Aulas added.

Lyon are currently in South Korea, playing in the Peace Cup as part of their
pre-season preparations. They will be back in France in three days if they
fail to reach the final, or next Monday if they go all the way.


Essien, who is on the Asian tour, has made it clear that he wants to move to
Stamford Bridge.
