Former Chelsea striker Kerry Dixon says Petr Cech's attitude typifies the
spirit in the Chelsea squad.

Cech made a number of crucial saves on Wednesday night as Chelsea reached
the Carling Cup final with a 1-0 success at Everton, winning the tie 3-1
on aggregate.

The goalkeeper played the game after just three hours of sleep because he
had spent the early hours of the morning on the phone to his wife
following the birth of his first child.

And Dixon feels Cech's desire to play in the game emphasises that the
Blues were taking the Carling Cup very seriously.

He told Sky Sports News: "His desire to want to play in the game after his
child was born in the early hours of the morning in another country shows
the determination of not only Cech, but the whole squad.

"His performance and his actions pretty much typified what Chelsea players
feel about this competition. They wanted to win the game.

"I would think he's the number one keeper in the world. Every goalkeeper
makes mistakes and he has made one or two this season for Chelsea. But by
and large he makes some wonderful saves and is worth every penny of the
transfer fee that Chelsea paid for him."

Dixon also paid tribute to new signing Nicolas Anelka, who is yet to score
for his new club, but put in another strong performance in the absence of
Didier Drogba, who is away at the African Nations Cup.

However, he says Anelka must be aware that he may need to sit on the bench
at times when the Ivory Coast forward returns.

He added: "At the moment Anelka is doing very well. From what he's done we
can see that he will score goals and he has fitted in very well.

"Chelsea's style of football will suit Anelka and when Didier Drogba comes
back then they might have to change that style to accommodate both players.

"But at Chelsea every player is a star in their own right and they are
asked to sit on the bench at times. You look at Wayne Bridge and Ashley
Cole, who are two wonderful left-backs and are asked to play in games when
Avram Grant decides.

"That is the case at Chelsea and any player that joins the club knows they
might be asked to sit on the bench for one game or two and accept the
rotation policy that Avram Grant employs."

Dixon also insisted Chelsea fans will be thrilled at reaching a third cup
final in two seasons and said every competition should be treated with
respect.

He said: "I was a little bit surprised that Avram Grant played the
tournament down before the game. I don't know if that was some sort of
ploy or if he actually meant that.

"But after the game he said that Chelsea are in every competition to win
it and they want to win every game.

"That's the way it should be as the fans don't want any competition to be
put down. They want trips to Wembley and they want to see their side win
trophies."
