Fri, 5th Oct 2007 As speculation mounts regarding who he will appoint as a second assistant, Avram Grant has been speaking about his plans for his coaching staff, and the important role played by Steve Clarke. It is now just over a fortnight since Grant and Clarke were drafted in to replace the outgoing Jose Mourinho and his Portuguese staff, and the Israeli is delighted with the support he has had from Clarke so far. 'I am very happy with Steve,' Grant said, revealing that he is keen for the Scot to stay at the club. 'I don't remember in the past looking for a replacement for Steve. Steve is doing now and will do in the future more than he did before I came because we changed the way of training. I must say again he was a key player in the last two weeks. 'I speak with Steve every day, and I don't think I need to say what I say with him, it's private, but on the subject I think he is happy and if not I think he will tell you.' Grant revealed he is searching for a European coach to complement Clarke's skills and knowledge of the domestic game. 'I'm looking for an assistant. I said it before and I will say it again, I am looking for two, one from Europe, one who is British. We have one who is British, Steve Clarke, which is very good, doing a very good job in the last two weeks. 'It's not easy - he replaced two men, not one. We have a different way of training, the coach is coaching and I am manager, so now we are still looking for another assistant,' the first team coach explained. The club has been linked with Ajax coach Henk ten Cate over the last couple of days, and Grant admits the Dutchman is someone he admires. 'He has a good record, he is a nice person, and I've met him before,' the first team coach explained. 'He knows football, and when I look for an assistant for Chelsea I want an assistant from top of the line, because he needs to work under me and to understand modern football and modern systems of training. 'It's my decision, I am in charge of myself, my staff and my players. Any decision about my staff and my players is my decision,' he continued. 'I need to work with these people. My two assistants will be top of the line, Steve, and we want the European also to be one of the best. 'I cannot say the process, but I can say that I personally check all the possibilities that we have. It was not a good time for me to come and then look for the staff, but we are trying our best. We try to do it as soon as possible but we don't want to rush and not find good people. We will do the best for Chelsea.' -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 140.112.212.28
