Jose Mourinho has introduced the third and final new player attending
Chelsea's training camp in the United States, taking the opportunity to
explain why the club opened its wallet for the first time this summer.
莫里尼奧介紹了第三個也是最後一個參加切爾西美國訓練營的球員，他藉此機會解釋

Florent Malouda signed a three-year contract on Monday and flew out the
next day to be greeted by his new manager. Ambition appeared more than
once in Mourinho's words after he handed over the number 15 shirt and
Malouda would later agree the Barclays Premier League is his idea of the
ultimate challenge. And a new challenge was needed for a player who had
won four consecutive championships at his previous club Lyon.

'I don't think it is a question of one more pound in his bank account,'
reckoned Mourinho about the transfer. 'I think why he wants to leave a
very good club like Olympique Lyon and come to Chelsea is because he wants
to change his life and to try to reach ambitions.

'He will very easily adapt in my opinion to the needs of English football,'
the manager added. He played before with Drogba and Essien and also with
Makelele in the national team so we know a lot about him.

'We had inside information about him, not as a player because as a player

has a lot of French-speaking players here.

Mourinho, while stating he didn't like making direct comparisons between
players' personalities, was prepared to draw some parallels.

'Players like Essien or Drogba, their personalities are not very different
from Florent's. They are very competitive and they are strong physically.
Florent is very adapted to playing with responsibilities because Lyon
plays to be champion and France plays to be champion. Playing to be
champion with Chelsea is not a big change. He is ready to play with the
pressure.'

Mourinho then moved quickly to pre-empt speculation that was bound to
follow the new addition to the squad.

'I want to make it very, very clear that he is not here to replace
anybody. That is not the objective. We have competition always in every
position. That is very important. I know everybody is watching Florent and
Robben in the same squad but I want to remind them that the best football

together in the same team. So why can't Florent and Robben play together?

really strong. We have the protection we didn't have last season for some
positions when we were in trouble. The 20 million euros we spent on
Florent, I think it is worth it.'

If Mourinho had been using mutual acquaintances to check out Malouda
before the deal was done, the player had certainly been doing similar on
Chelsea. Not only were the three players already mentioned there for
advice, an ex-Chelsea man in Tiago has been alongside him in the Lyon
side.

was a good experience for him,' Malouda said, justifying Mourinho's
complement about his spoken English.

know if one day he becomes a top player. Now he is a very top striker. Me,
I have more experience, I am more strong and I am ready to do a good
championship in England.'
