Chelsea's Damien Duff has leapt to the defence of manager Jose Mourinho, and
claims the criticism the Portuguese coach receives is actually good for
the team.
Mourinho has made a massive impact both on and off the pitch during his first
term in English football.
The former Porto boss has already claimed his first piece of silverware on
British soil in the Carling Cup, but has put noses out of joint with his
abrasive personality and outspoken views.
Indeed, he was handed a two-game touchline ban by Uefa last week after the
row in the aftermath of the UEFA Champions League clash with Barcelona which
saw referee Anders Frisk retire from the game.
Duff insists, though, that Mourinho has been a positive influence on his
players, and believes the amount of attention he generates is a blessing
in disguise.
"The manager does take a lot of flak," Duff stated. "I suppose it is a good
thing.
"The players don't really get a lot of press when he's around. That can only
be good.
"The Uefa stuff doesn't affect us at all."
Duff also claimed Chelsea's squad would not be put off as their bid to claim
a treble success gathers pace.
"If you're on top people want to have a go.
"I suppose with all the money it is an extra incentive to have a go at us,
but it doesn't bother me - as long as we're winning.
"We treat every game like a cup final now."
