Mourinho: ‘Prem clubs should play away in the FA Cup’

Jose Mourinho has called for all Premiership clubs to play their FA Cup
fixtures away from home whenever they are drawn with lower-league clubs.
The Chelsea boss called for a revamp of the competition after his
multi-millionaires stumbled past Scunthorpe’s paupers at Stamford Bridge
and into the fourth round.
Mourinho rested many of his star players for the tie, but insists that
he would field a stronger team if Chelsea had been drawn away from home.
And according to the outspoken Portuguese, all top-flight clubs should play
their ties at the grounds of lower league opposition regardless of whether
they are drawn home or away.
"I have a personal opinion about cups," Mourinho announced to the press
after Saturday's game. "The Premiership team in the cup should always
play in the stadium of the lower division team. You can imagine this game
in Scunthorpe and maybe we lose. It would give them a bigger chance of
winning."
"Scunthorpe didn't just come here to enjoy the stadium, the opponents...
I can imagine their stadium is small, so it might be a problem to have a
team such as Chelsea there," he added.
At a time when the FA are reputedly concerned that the country's premier
cup competition is being devalued by a spate of clubs fielding
under-strength teams, they may be interested to note Mourinho's claim that
he would have fielded a stronger side if Chelski had traveled to Scunthorpe.
"Maybe if I had to play at Scunthorpe I would play with a better team
because I would be afraid of losing."
