“It is good for the group,” said Jose Mourinho, celebrating his first
Chelsea Cup Final.


“For the supporters, the staff, the players obviously, for Peter Kenyon,
Roman, for everyone.”


Chelsea had beaten Manchester United 2-1 away, 2-1 on aggregate, to face
Liverpool in the Final.


“I think we deserved it,” he added. “The first goal was a perfect move,
and then we scored from a set-play.” At the other end he had elected to
go with Petr Cech in goal for the first time in this competition.


“It wasn’t an easy decision for me,” he said, “because I think Carlo
deserves to be in the goal, but it’s just a feeling you have, that you
could be winning and you finish the game with a lot of crosses, with a lot
of corners, they have two wide players who can cross balls, and also with
Petr in the goal more understanding because he’s playing more times, so
the better.


“But I promised Carlo and the players before the game that if we reached
the Final the Final will be for Carlo. He play every game in the
competition, he’s a fantastic professional for us, he’s been here a long
time, and I think of what he means to the club and because of his
contribution Carlo deserves this.”
