RANIERI'S RECORD STANDS UP
Monday 22nd March 2004
Chelsea boss Claudio Ranieri can count himself very unlucky to have
so much speculation surrounding his future as his side have made one of
the best starts in Premiership history.
Fresh reports over the weekend suggested that Ranieri will be sacked
at the end of the season no matter what he does at Stamford Bridge.
The Italian's long-term future in West London has been speculated about
since England coach Sven Goran Eriksson was pictured meeting Blues owner
Roman Abramovich.
Ranieri could argue he has been unfairly criticised as he can point to
the fact that only four teams in Premiership history have a better record
after 29 games of the season.
Arsenal have taken all the plaudits this season having equalled the
record of Leeds and Liverpool by going 29 games unbeaten from the start of
the season.
Ranieri's side have the fifth best record of the 246 teams who have
played in the top-flight since 1992, but despite this feat the Italian
still has his record at Stamford Bridge questioned by many.
Record after 29 games of a Premiership season.
