Ranieri made no apology for the clutch of household names he fielded at The Madejski Stadium after starting with five of the side which defeated Manchester United at Stamford Bridge at the weekend, including Joe Cole, Frank Lampard and John Terry. "I will always put out a strong team which can take care of every match,' ' he said. "My squad is full of good champions and they deserved to play. "We want to win every competition and we treat all our opponents with respect.'' Ranieri played £16.8m striker Hernan Crespo in attack alongside Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and it was the latter who edged the Blues into the quarter- finals with the only goal of the game. But the Stamford Bridge boss paid tribute to Marcus Hahnemann after watching the Reading goalkeeper make several superb saves to keep the Royals in with a chance. There was little Hahnemann could do about Hasselbaink's goal given the speed of Chelsea's movement and he excelled himself throughout, with Argentina striker Crespo the main victim of his super-sharp reactions. Ranieri said: "I thought Reading's keeper did a fantastic job. He saved four or five great chances and kept them in the game. "Crespo was particularly unlucky, but hopefully he will be able to score in training on Thursday. "Their keeper meant it was an exciting game because it was still open until the end. It was a good match which the crowd will have enjoyed. "Both teams worked hard and there were plenty of chances. I'm pleased with the way we performed.''
