Claudio not unhappy with performance

Despite failing to beat the bottom team, Claudio Ranieri was not
disappointed with the 1-1 draw earned by Damien Duff’s equaliser at Leeds
yesterday.
“Our attitude has to be right. I thought we started very well and
dominated the match. We had a lot of shots, I don’t know how many.
“It was like Reading again. Sometimes we missed, and sometimes Robinson
made some very good saves. Fortunately in the end Damien Duff found the way to
score a goal.”
Ranieri kept changing Chelsea’s shape in order to counter Leeds’ lead
and five man midfield. After the equaliser he decided to go for two wingers,
something he rarely does, with Jesper Gronkjaer on the right and Duff on the
left.
But Chelsea’s forward charge petered out, and Ranieri lamented: “We
didn’t know the way well with two wingers. We didn’t get the ball out to
them early enough.”
He gave Leeds credit. “They played like desperate man. They defended very
hard. I knew they would play that way. Teams maybe have a bit more respect for
us and close us down.”
Ranieri’s counterpart, Leeds’ caretaker manager Eddie Gray, was
similarly pleased with a point.
“We knew this was going to be a hard game. We created a few chances.
Steven McPhail went close to making it 2-0. I would have loved to see that go
in.
“That said, the amount of possession they had I thought it would be hard
for us to stop them creating chances.
“I said to the players before the game that I thought if we could stop
them scoring we would have a chance because there are goals in this side.”
Frank Lampard was limping for all the second-half but suffered only a dead
leg and should be fit for European action.
