Eriksson admits club deals
Sven-Goran Eriksson has revealed he made deals with the Premiership's top
managers allowing them to pull players out of the friendly against Sweden.
"I made deals with them - yes," said Eriksson ahead of the game in Gothenburg
on Wednesday.
"I knew two of the players from Arsenal could not come so I told
Sir Alex Ferguson, Claudio Ranieri and Bobby Robson they could do the same."
Eriksson also reiterated his claim that English clubs play too many matches.
Midfielder Frank Lampard has been a regular in the Chelsea side all season
and is one of the players being rested for the Sweden match.
He, along with team-mate Wayne Bridge, was chosen by Stamford Bridge boss
Ranieri as one of the two players who could be withdrawn from Eriksson's squad.
And the England boss cited Arsenal's upcoming schedule as a prime example of
the fixture congestion in the Premiership.
The Gunners played Manchester United on Sunday and face the Old Trafford
side again this Saturday before playing Chelsea on Tuesday, Liverpool on
Friday and then travel to Newcastle on Sunday.
"If you say that is fair then I don't understand it," added the Swede.
"You cannot play four games in nine days - that is crazy. I'm not talking
about Arsenal I am talking about the fitness levels of the players at the
end of the season."
