Lampard aims to win Xavi rematch By Christopher Davies in Barcelona (Filed: 22/02/2005 選錄) It is rare that the Chelsea midfielder has been outplayed this season but when England lost 1-0 to Spain in Madrid last November, Lampard admitted he was second best to the outstanding Xavi. Xavi is one of the few players who can tackle as well as he can pass, a genuine all-round midfielder who emerged at Barcelona when Jose Mourinho was assistant coach to Louis van Gaal seven years ago. Lampard said: "Xavi? Maybe I owe him one after Madrid. He's a fantastic player. That game in Spain was a difficult one to compare players. As a team we didn't perform. This time will be different. I respect him as a player but I'm confident of having a good game." Xavi, who was a teenager when Mourinho was on the coaching staff at the Nou Camp, added: "In Jose Mourinho they have someone who knows us very well. He used to put a lot of faith in young players and see how we would respond. He's a football man, he knows a lot about tactics and helped my game a lot." Mourinho started the mind games last week when he said that unlike himself, Rijkaard had yet to win any trophies as manager of Barcelona. Ronaldinho, though, believes it is simply a matter of time before the Dutchman succeeds. "I am sure he will win trophies," he said. "At first it takes a bit of time. He has everything to be a good manager and there is no reason why we cannot win both La Liga and the Champions League this year. To win the Champions League we must, of course, beat Chelsea but I believe we will." Damien Duff and William Gallas are expected to shake off knocks to be available though Didier Drogba is 50-50 at best. Valencia coach Claudio Ranieri predicted victory for his former club tomorrow. He said: "I think Chelsea are the best team in Europe right now. They have a very good balance and understanding between defence, midfield and strikers. "Barcelona are fantastic but not so strong or compact as Chelsea. Barcelona are particularly strong when they have the ball and they like to move it around and keep possession, but they can leave a lot of space for the counter- attack where Chelsea are amazing. There will be two terrific matches between the teams but I think Chelsea are going to win." Chelsea will make a loss of almost £12 million when Hernan Crespo, on loan to AC Milan this season, signs on a permanent basis this summer. After a meeting between Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich and Adriano Galliani, the Italian club's vice-president, a discount price of £5 million has been agreed. 謝謝拉老XD -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 61.218.33.2
