Chelsea winger Jesper Gronkjaer has revealed his annoyance at not
playing regularly in his favoured left sided role and claims that his
career has gone nowhere since his move to Stamford Bridge.
Gronkjaer was snapped up by Chelsea in December 2000 for over £7
million, but he has now become a squad player since the arrival of
Russian owner Roman Abramovich.
The arrivals of Joe Cole, Scott Parker, Juan Sebastian Veron and
Damien Duff - mean that only a handful of players in the Blues' squad
can count on regular first team football.
Gronkjaer has now revealed his frustration at the current state of
affairs in West London.
"All the changes have been tricky to take in and I sometimes wonder
whether it has benefited me," said the Dane.
"I don't know if you could say I've gone backwards in my time at
Chelsea, but I've certainly gone sideways.
"I'm definitely not the same player as when I came here.
"I was seen as a great player at Ajax, but perhaps that is because
the Dutch league is easier. It's difficult to say.
"I'm a left winger first and foremost but I have never played there
regularly for Chelsea and I certainly haven't had a look in since Damien
Duff arrived in the summer and that has been very tough."
In what seems like a complete left wing revolt, Irish star Duff has
also revealed that he wants to start more.
"If I was the manager, I would play me on the left wing every time,"
said the former Blackburn Rovers star.
"Everbody knows it's my best position. But football does not work
that way.
"I am moved around all the time at Chelsea."
