Chelsea winger Jesper Gronkjaer was shocked to find the reward for defeating
Arsenal in the Champions League was a semi-final clash with Monaco and not
Real Madrid.


For many it was a foregone conclusion that the superstars of Madrid would
defend a 4-2 first leg lead against Monaco and take their place in the last
four.


But the Principality club stunned the Spanish giants with a 3-1 victory in
the return meeting on Tuesday to progress on the away goals rule.


"It was a surprise, and I don't know much about Monaco, but they must have
a strong team when they have come so far and beaten Real Madrid,"
said Gronkjaer.


"It's huge for us to be among the final four in the Champions League,
but we haven't won anything yet," he added in Danish newspaper BT.


"There has been a lot of media around us this season since the arrival
of (owner Roman) Abramovich, and the victory against Arsenal helps take
off the pressure."
