     The senior face in the reserve team squad, Joe has returned from a
loan of over a year at Westerlo in the Belgian top division where he
played left-back. That was the position he played for Chelsea youth after
leaving his home town club to begin his full-time career but it was in
midfield that Joe developed as a reserve player and made three first-team
substitute appearances in 2002. That progress was halted by a broken leg.


     Joe began the current season on loan at Brentford and is likely to
seek further first-team opportunities away from Stamford Bridge.
