Carlton Cole captained England Under 21s for the first time tonight,
Tuesday, but had to come off injured just before half-time.
He had played well but England were generally inferior to Holland
and went down by two goals to one.
Nuno Morais and Filipe Oliveira both played all 90 minutes of
Portugal Under 21s’ home 2-0 win over Ireland. The first teams
play tomorrow in Ireland when Damien Duff will win his 50th cap.
England Schoolboys international Jamie Simmonds, a first year scholar,
made his Ireland Under 19s debut this afternoon as a substitute
against Norway in a tournament in La Manga, and scored the second
goal. Ireland play Czech Republic on Thursday.
