Robert Huth returned from the United States with renewed confidence he can be
more than a bit-part player for Chelsea this season.
The 6ft 3in German centre-half does not turn 20 until later this month, but has
already shown his determination to become a first-team regular after working
his way through the youth ranks at Stamford Bridge.
Following the arrival of Ricardo Carvalho this summer, there had been interest
from other clubs to take Huth on loan for the coming season.
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho, though, wants the German to battle it out with the
Portugal international, as well as William Gallas, for a central-defensive role
alongside skipper John Terry.
"It gives me a lot of confidence that the manager thinks well of me, and I hope
I get a few more games this season," said Huth on Chelsea TV.
"He has only been here for a couple of weeks now, but he always comes up to me,
tells me something or gives me encouragement, which for a young players is
really helpful."
