Robert Huth
With strength far beyond that expected for his tender years, Robert is
now adding maturity in decision making to maturity in stature. A Chelsea
youth product having arrived from Berlin aged just 16, he is a tall,
domineering presence of deceptive pace who can only improve with more games
under his belt.
How often those games will come is the big question with the
considerable forces of John Terry, William Gallas and Ricardo Carvalho also
fighting for centre-back places and Robert was held in reserve at the start
of last season.
That however did not prevent an unexpected and rapid rise in his
international career which has gone from youth level to under 21s and then
on to the full German side in less than six months. In September Robert was
selected on merit for a full 90 minutes action against world champions
Brazil and in the summer of 2005 was ever-present in the Confederations
Cup. He has every chance of a dream place in the home nation side for the
2006 World Cup Finals.
Back at Chelsea, Robert overcame two injuries in quick succession last
season to enjoy frequent action in the closing months, Mourinho not slow to
call on his presence. His thunderbolt free-kicks that are already legendary
at reserve level.
