http://www.chelseafc.com/article.asp?hlid=325485 Leicester Reserves 1 Chelsea Reserves 1 Tuesday, Nov 15, 2005 History more-or-less repeated itself in a cruel manner at Midlands outpost Hinckley United as Leicester again snatched a last-gasp equaliser to deny Chelsea an away win. In the corresponding fixture last season, a controversial retaken penalty cancelled out a Danny Hollands first-half goal three minutes from time. Thirteen months on, the Reserves’ captain again gave Chelsea a half-time lead but this time it was a harshly awarded corner that left our second string feeling aggrieved; especially when it was headed in by Leicester in the 90th minute. That goal denied Chelsea what would have been a thoroughly deserved win. In keeping with the Mourinho methodology, this young side had barely lost control of play throughout the game. Midfielder Hollands was a threat from early on, firing his first chance over. Joe Tillen and James Simmonds both worked the goalkeeper in the opening minutes. Just before the half-hour mark, a move that cut through Leicester should have ended in the opening goal. Speedy Joe Tillen ran diagonally from left to right, playing the ball into the path of Dean Furman who had initially won possession. The advanced holding midfielder's deliberate shot was pushed out by Leicester keeper Henderson. Three minutes further on, Hollands chested down Filipe Morais’ accurate chip into the box but as in the opening minutes, he aimed too high. At that point there must have been concern for coach Mick McGiven that his side had been clearly superior, if not highly creative, but had nothing tangible to show for a good first-half. Fortunately it was to be third time lucky for Hollands. Tillen’s corner initially evaded the collected Chelsea heads but when the Leicester defence scuffed it clear, the skipper was on hand to bang the ball in. Chelsea had the lead with 36 minutes gone. There had been a moment of panic for Leicester leading up to the corner — Elmer’s cross-cum-attempted lob desperately clawed behind by Henderson. Morais blasted just past the angle as the second-half continued with Chelsea on top before it entered a scrappy phase, both sides conceding regular free-kicks. With 63 minutes gone, youth team top scorer Scott Sinclair was brought on for his reserve team debut. The 16 year-old replaced James Simmonds, more usually a midfielder who had been asked to play as central striker in the absence of available specialists. Jack Cork, making his first reserve start in defence was enjoying a comfortable initiation as Leicester looked every inch a side that had only found the net 11 times in its 10 games this season. Before the end of the game two more Chelsea youth team regulars, Jack Watkins and Ricardo Fernandes were introduced to give the reserve team its most junior look of the season. Maybe that played a part in allowing Leicester their only two efforts on goal in the final few minutes but before that, Hollands tried his luck from 25 yards and was only a couple of feet too high with a powerful left-footer. Then Morais cut inside and let fly, the ball deflecting off a defender and needing a good save to keep it out. Leicester’s first sight of goal was Sheehan heading a free-kick wide. The influential Morais at the other end had a volleying chance that he skewed wide but then Leicester were awarded a corner when it appeared their player had taken the last touch. The ball came across to the near-post area and centre-forward Ricky Muggleton rose well and headed home. There was one final chance of a reprieve for Chelsea when a free-kick was awarded in stoppage time. Morais’ direct attempt curled over by some distance.
