Chelsea Youth team face Porto tonight in the semi-final of the
Northern Ireland Milk Cup, the biggest youth club competition in the
world, after beating the Mexicans Cruz Azul last night, Wednesday.
The other semi-final is between Manchester United and Barcelona.
The winner was an own goal following a dangerous cross by left-back
Ryan Bertrand, flicked on by Scott Sinclair, which caused mayhem.
Coach Brendan Rodgers was delighted with the experience as much as
the performance. “It was a real tight game and was a different style for
the boys. Cruz Azul were tough and strong, they played 3-4-3.”
Tom Lyskov became the latest schoolboy to participate in the
tournament for Chelsea. He was signed from Reading in the summer. The
games have been played one a day all week, and are 70 minutes long to
cater for their frequency.
