Like the first team, Chelsea Youth went 90 minutes without conceding
a shot on target, but at the other end the best they could muster on
Saturday lunchtime was the striking of a crossbar. That was with 15
minutes to go when Scott Sinclair almost converted a Shaun Cummings cross.
Coach Brendan Rodgers was not displeased with the performance but saw
room for improvement. “We gave another very good performance, this time
against a well organised and strong team. But we found it difficult to
break down their 4-5-1.
“In the second-half when the game opened up a bit more, we created
more chances but we failed to make their keeper work. We kept a clean
sheet, defensively we were strong and they had no shots on goal. Many of
our players showed terrific mentality, bravery in trying to do the right
things throughout.”
Next Saturday the youth team is away to Charlton. Chelsea have now won
two, drawn two and lost one in the League this season.
