REACTION: THE RETURN OF THE TEAM

It was Jose Mourinho's glance forward that caught the attention just as
much his look back following a goalless evening at Villa Park.
Despite two points lost, the defiant Chelsea manager claimed a degree of
satisfaction with the third of three consecutive draws, a belief that it
was a step on the road to recovery from recent floundering form. He
welcomed the remainder of the season ahead.

But with so much talk over Christmas concerning unavailable players, the
big news came when Mourinho was prepared to put a time frame on some
important returns.

'Unless something negative happens, I have John Terry for the next
Premiership game,' he announced. 'And unless something happens I have
Robben and Cech, not for the Wigan game, but for the next one so in
mid-January.

'And I look forward to that. My team won't be at full power because Joe
Cole is to forget for the next couple of months, but at least I have

his foot.

Mourinho also estimated he will also be without Khalid Boulahrouz for
four-to-six weeks after the defender injured knee ligaments in the
first-half of the Villa game.

He continued his look forward by claiming title rivals Manchester United
might live to regret dropping a few points themselves during this period
when Chelsea have proved wasteful.

'What happened in the previous two seasons is we got them with problems
and we killed them in the Christmas time. We arrived out of the Christmas
period with 11, 12, 13 points lead, something like that and they have lost
five points recently at West Ham and Newcastle.

'I think Man United didn't take advantage of our bad moment. The gap could
be bigger so now we look forward to the second part of the season.

'I am happy with the attitude today,' decided Mourinho as he addressed his
side's first 90 minutes of 2007. 'Today we played as a team. We tried to
hide the difficulties we have had in defending well and we did it.

'When a team was worried like our team was to not make defensive mistakes
and to hide the problems we have had at the back, a team loses a bit of
power in attack.

'Despite that we had chances in the first-half and two good chances at the
end of the game so I think we did enough to win.'

'This is not sycophantic but I think Chelsea are a really brilliant side,'
was the view of Villa boss Martin O'Neill. 'They will be disappointed not
to have won the game but that shows you the standard we are talking about
when they have drawn a couple of games and they are disappointed. We did
really well.'

Mourinho summed up his thoughts on the game.
'Today it was more important to have again that feeling of a team
together, 11 players fighting for a result. In this moment, that was more
important than to win the game.'
